IG541 30 MPa Mixture Gas Fire Suppression System

The ANWETECH IG541 30 MPa Mixture Gas Fire Suppression System is a total flooding gaseous fire suppression solution using a mixture of nitrogen, argon and carbon dioxide.

The extinguishing agent is colourless, odourless, non-toxic and non-conductive. The system is designed for enclosed protected areas such as computer rooms, data rooms, telecommunication rooms, transformer rooms, electrical switch rooms, generator rooms, control centres, archives and other industrial spaces.

The system supports electrical automatic, electrical manual and mechanical emergency starting modes, with 80 L and 140 L extinguishing-agent cylinder options.

Description

Overview

IG541 extinguishing agent is a clean compressed gas consisting of:

  • Nitrogen (N₂): 52% ± 4%
  • Argon (Ar): 40% ± 4%
  • Carbon Dioxide (CO₂): 8% +1% / -0.0%

According to the manual, the agent is colourless, odourless, non-toxic and non-conductive. It does not impair visibility during discharge, does not produce corrosive decomposition products and has zero ozone depletion potential.

IG541 extinguishes fire mainly by reducing the oxygen concentration within the protected enclosure to a level that does not support combustion, generally below 15%.

The system is intended for total flooding protection of Class A surface fires, Class B flammable-liquid fires and energized electrical hazards in enclosed spaces.

The system may be configured as either a combined distribution system serving several protected areas or a unit independent system dedicated to one protected area. In a combined distribution system, only one protected zone is discharged at a time.

30 MPa Storage Pressure

The IG541 extinguishing-agent storage system operates at a nominal storage pressure of 30.0 MPa.

Maximum working pressure at +50°C is 36.6 MPa, while minimum working pressure at 0°C is 27 MPa.

Three Starting Modes

The system supports:

  • Electrical automatic start
  • Electrical manual start
  • Mechanical emergency start

Automatic Alarm and Linkage Control

In automatic mode, a fire signal can initiate audible and visual alarms, equipment linkage shutdown and the extinguishing release sequence.

The manual describes a preset 30-second delay before the release command is issued.

80 L and 140 L Cylinder Options

Two extinguishing-agent cylinder sizes are specified:

  • 80 L
  • 140 L

Combined or Independent Protection

The system can be arranged as:

 System Operating Principle

When a fire is detected, the control system initiates alarm, linkage shutdown, delay timing and cylinder release in sequence.

Depending on the selected operating mode, the system can be activated automatically, electrically manually or mechanically in an emergency.

After activation, the IG541 extinguishing agent is released from the storage cylinders through the manifold and discharge nozzles into the selected protected area.

Automatic Control

When the controller is set to automatic mode, the system can:

Fire Detection → Audible & Visual Alarm → Equipment Linkage → Delay → Cylinder / Selection Valve Release → IG541 Discharge

The manual specifies a preset delay of 30 seconds in the automatic control sequence.

Electrical Manual Control

When set to manual mode, alarm and linkage actions continue automatically, but agent release requires authorized personnel to operate the manual release control.

Mechanical Emergency Operation

If the control system fails during a fire, trained personnel can perform the mechanical emergency operating procedure described in the manual.

 System Configurations

Combined Distribution System

One extinguishing system serves several protected areas. Only one protected zone is discharged at a time.

Unit Independent System

One dedicated extinguishing system protects one individual protected area.

Installation and Maintenance

Installation, commissioning and maintenance should be carried out by trained personnel familiar with pressurized-gas fire suppression systems.

The manual specifies that:

  • Cylinders shall be securely fixed.
  • A clear operating aisle of at least 1 m shall be maintained.
  • Distributing-valve mounting height shall not exceed 1.7 m.
  • Pneumatic pipelines shall be supported at spacing not greater than 0.6 m.
  • The final pipe support shall be located within 300 mm of the nozzle.

Routine inspection is specified as weekly, while periodic maintenance shall be carried out at least once per year.

Driving cylinders and extinguishing-agent storage cylinders are specified for inspection every 5 years according to the applicable seamless-steel-cylinder standard.
